To mark World Music Day, celebrated on 1 October, Instituto Superior Técnico, once again invited its scientific community, for the fifth consecutive year, to “connect with music” by sharing a selection of tracks that are part of their everyday lives.

Eight researchers from different Técnico Research Units took up the challenge, each selecting 10 songs for their personal playlists. Spanning different genres and musical references, the playlists also offer a glimpse into the personal relationship each researcher has with music — whether at work, during breaks or beyond the academic environment.

Among them is Catarina Caneira, researcher at INESC MN, who shared a playlist reflecting her perspective on the connection between science and art: “Ultimately, science and art share the same essence: understanding how vibrations can produce extraordinary effects — some reveal how the world works, while others reveal who we are.”
