Cristiana Domingues

PhD Researcher
Spintronics and Magnetic Sensors

Cristiana Domingues is a researcher in the fields of Biotechnology and Biosensors, specializing in microfluidics, biomolecular detection technologies, and micro/nanotechnology for biomedical and agricultural applications. Her academic and scientific career has been developed in Lisbon, mainly at Instituto Superior Técnico and INESC-MN, where she has contributed to research projects focused on the development of microfluidic devices and biosensors for healthcare, environmental monitoring, and rapid diagnostic applications. She completed her PhD in Biotechnology and Biosciences at Instituto Superior Técnico (2021–2025), graduating with distinction, presenting a thesis focused on the development of a microfluidic biochip platform for the detection of stress biomarkers in vineyards. Previously, she obtained an MSc in Biotechnology, conducting research on microfluidic systems for the continuous production of L-DOPA and dopamine using immobilized enzymes, and earned a BSc in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.

Throughout her career, she has worked on several scientific projects involving cell damage detection, immunosensors, aptamer-based sensors, and point-of-care diagnostic devices. She also has extensive experience in cleanroom technologies, microfabrication, thin-film deposition, photolithography, PDMS prototyping, and process optimization for Through-Silicon Vias (TSVs). Since 2025, she has been involved in advanced technology projects related to photonic systems, biosensors, and biomedical micro/nanotechnology solutions.

Her scientific activity includes multiple international publications in the fields of microfluidics, biosensors, and plant stress monitoring, as well as participation in international conferences such as MicroTAS, EUROSENSORS, and the IEEE Sensors Applications Symposium. In parallel, she has developed strong academic mentoring experience, supervising undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students in scientific research projects.
