The International Microorganism Day (17 September) celebrates our growing knowledge of these intriguing life forms through scientific dissemination events. During this celebration, the collaboration between INESC MN and iBB was represented by Maria Zolotareva and Francisco Cascalheira, who shared their work on DNA barcoding and lab-on-chip technologies for infectious disease diagnosis. This collaboration explores the informative potential of microbial genomic sequences (ranging from species identification to drug-resistance prediction), microfluidic design and fabrication, and magnetoresistive biosensing in the development of novel diagnostic strategies. Bringing cutting-edge developments from different fields and research groups, on this day we celebrate another step forward toward better health and improved quality of life.
The initiative was led by Instituto Superior Técnico, where the event took place.
