As part of the SafeFire project, emphasizing firefighter well-being and performance, an innovative wearable prototype has been created in a form of a t-shirt. This t-shirt incorporates flexible electrodes woven into the fabric, allowing real-time measurement of the heart muscle’s electrical activity (electrocardiogram) in a non-intrusive manner. This provides continuous health and safety monitoring, especially beneficial for fire department members and fire and rescue operations. In testing at the University of Coimbra’s medical faculty, this innovative prototype will be revealed at an upcoming trade fair ‘Exponor’ (Matosinhos – Porto, from 21-22 February 2024) by the industrial partner Latino Group. It signifies a major leap in merging technology with firefighting, offering improved occupational health and emergency response activities.
