The initiative “Explica-me como se tivesse 5 anos – Explain it Like I’m 5 – Science Talks at Técnico for Children and Curious Adults” is back for its third season. Throughout the 2025/2026 school year, Instituto Superior Técnico will once again welcome preschool and primary school students to explore science in an accessible and engaging way.
Seven researchers from Técnico will answer curious children’s questions on topics ranging from satellites and nanotechnology to radiation, sustainability, trains, the Universe, and the connection between music and mathematics. This will be the first season held fully in person at Técnico’s historic Salão Nobre (Alameda campus).
We are proud to announce that our researcher Vânia Silvério will join the program, leading the session on November 12, 2025, titled “How does a laboratory that can travel in the palm of your hand work?”. Her talk will introduce children to the fascinating world of microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip technologies.
The program begins on October 8, 2025, and will run monthly until May 2026. Sessions follow a simple but dynamic format: a short talk to answer a child’s question, followed by an open Q&A that encourages active participation from the audience.
👉 Registrations are already open for individual participants and schools, and all sessions will later be made available online.
We thank Instituto Superior Técnico for organizing this inspiring initiative, and Vânia for representing INESC MN in bringing science closer to the youngest audiences.
