INESC MN at Encontro Ciência 2025

INESC MN is actively participating in ‘Encontro Ciência 2025‘, one of Portugal’s leading science and innovation events, currently taking place at the NOVA SBE campus in Carcavelos, in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. Under the central theme “Science, Innovation and Society”, the event continues to serve as a key meeting point for the national and international scientific community.

Throughout the three-day event, INESC MN is hosting a dedicated stand, showcasing its research activities, technological developments, and collaborative projects. The stand offers an opportunity for engagement with researchers, industry representatives, policymakers, and the general public — reinforcing the institute’s commitment to impactful, interdisciplinary science.

Susana Cardoso de Freitas is representing INESC MN in two thematic sessions:

🔹 The Role of Technological Infrastructures in the R&I Ecosystem
(Organized by ANI)
Held on July 10th, this session brought together institutions from the INESC network to reflect on the challenges and strategic opportunities of promoting autonomy and resilience through dual-use research. The discussion highlighted key insights from the recent INESC Brussels HUB Summer Meeting 2025 and featured examples of INESC MN’s contributions in nanoelectronics, cybersecurity, health technologies, energy, and photonics — all areas critical to EU innovation and defense priorities.

The session speakers included:
José Carlos Caldeira (EC Expert Group), Ana Luisa Jegundo (IPN), André Matos (DTX), Joana Maria (Vortex CoLAB), and Joana Branco (Biocant Park).

🔹 The Role of Research in Resilience, Strategic Autonomy, and Defense in the EU
Organized by INESC-ID)
Taking place today, July 11th, this session explores how Technological Infrastructures (OITs) contribute to strengthening connections between academia, industry, and innovation ecosystems. INESC MN is sharing perspectives on how its infrastructure supports applied research and industrial competitiveness at both national and European levels.

The session speakers include:
João Claro (INESC TEC), Carlos Henggeler Antunes (INESC Coimbra), Nazua Costa (INOV – INESC), Nuno Santos (INESC ID), Susana Cardoso de Freitas (INESC MN), and Nuno Cruz (INESC TEC).

INESC MN’s participation at ‘Encontro Ciência 2025’ highlights the institute’s ongoing efforts to connect scientific research with societal needs, while helping to shape Europe’s future through technological leadership and strategic collaboration.

Thanks to Ricardo Cabeça for his great help organizing the stand.
